Tree = gone!

There was a very tall tree on my neighbor's property but leaning towards my garage, so we got permission to have it taken down. Even though it was on their property, if it falls on yours - your insurance gets to pay. Figured with the new roof and the recent wind storms & fallen trees, that it was smarter to have it come down on our terms. The roots were also busting up my asphalt making me quite sad : (

New Roof !

Our big summer project was getting a new roof on our house. We went from the red color to a charcoal color. Adam, JC and John did a great job! Isn't it crazy how it made the siding look like a different shade? Looks like a new house!!
We also painted the garage to more closely match the siding color of the house before also replacing the roof. Below is the picture of the garage and the back of the house.
Then we (well, I) noticed the lights on the front and back of the house no longer matched, so Audrey and I found these pretty lights and then John and Audrey installed them.

New hair stying tool

We were cleaning the house and Audrey was vacuuming. She came down and mentioned that since she was watching the vacuum pick up cat hair, she wondered what would happen to her hair. I think the look is very cute! Fluffy and sassy!

Sister moving....

My sister is moving to Denver - don't remember her asking my permission though!! She did stop by on her way to the airport. I'm sure we will continue to be in touch via email and phone, but now we've got a great excuse to check out the state of Colorado and visit Kathy!!

Zucchini Bread

Tried a new recipe. Hard for me to decide if I thought it was "The Best" zucchini bread as it was described (compared to the recipe I usually use but ate a year ago). It was pretty tasty though I did not care for the "topping" portion.

ZUCCHINI BREAD
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
3 tsp ground cinnamon
3 eggs
1 cup oil
2 1/4 cups sugar
3 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups grated zucchini
1 cup walnuts, optional
2 TBSP sugar
2 TBSP butter

Grease and flour 2 bread pans or about 5 mini loaf pans. Sift flour, salt, baking powder, soda, and cinnamon together in a bowl. Beat eggs, oil, vanilla and sugar together in a large bowl. Add sifted ingredients to the creamed mixture, and beat well. Stir in zucchini until well combined. Add nuts (optional). Pour batter into prepared pans. Sprinkle each loaf with 1 TBSP of sugar evenly over the top. Bake for 40 to 60 minutes at 325 degrees.

Eastern Experience

Audrey and her friend Shayla went to Eastern Washington University for their Eastern Experience from 7/29-8/1. They stayed in the dorms, ate food at The Roost (really good) and another spot on campus. They had different activities every day to include real college lectures and various socializing activities. They also watched Avatar outside one evening - it was projected onto one of the buildings. It was a good opportunity to socialize, meet new people and get to know what college is like.
