The Fair

We had to make our annual trek to the Interstate Fair and chose a weekday, hoping to miss the crowds. Though neither one of us had entered anything, we did know of a few others that had, so we wanted to check those out. Audrey had homework so stayed home so it was a date-night for John and I. After we toured the craft & photo displays, commercial booths and animal barns, we checked out the food court. We decided to try something new and ended up with a Russian pierogi (basically meat & melted cheese inside a bun). Very tasty. Because we shared the main dish, we had room for dessert - right? We chose a funnel cake with berries, whipped cream and powdered sugar. Yummy but too much even for the two of us to share. Wonder how folks eat one by themselves?

Of course, we always go to the fair to support my friend, Jessie. She got a wonderful article in the local paper and this great pic!

Great Sunday

Today was Stake Conference, which actually ended up being a direct feed from Salt Lake to all the congregations in Alaska and Washington. What a pleasant surprise to be able to hear from President Monson! I was the organist for our building and had an interesting time playing prelude music in the dark as someone had flipped the lights out in anticipation of the video feed in the middle of one of the hymns... After a wonderful conference, we went home and had a impromptu barbecue with the McLaughlin's. Connor spent a lot of time picking tomatoes and blackberries, and then taking home his treasures. Emma kept trying to beat her score on the marble solitaire game we have while Dale kept us entertained. We had a nice time in our backyard enjoying probably the last barbecue of the summer. Then I headed to a YW Presidency meeting. They put in a new YW Presidency while we were on our Utah trip so we have a new president (Jenn) and counselors (Jill & Kim W) but I am still the secretary for the Young Women. While I was at my meeting (3 hrs) John went to a Stake Meeting for the audit committee. That's what we get with 5 callings (for me) and 3 callings (for John). I'm not sure how much resting we got today, but it was a great Sunday.

Welder

Audrey is REALLY enjoying her welding class. They have been working on free-hand cutting a 30 degree angle. This is her first few attempts. Pretty good for only in the class for a week!!

Ouch!!

John has taken up running and gets up at the crack of dawn to get in his exercise before the rest of his day starts. He was out running on Saturday morning and tripped on something and twisted his ankle. He came limping home and tried to get ready for a nephew's baptism, but could not even walk, let alone put on his shoe. His sister Marcie teased him by saying he should not be out running but should check out the PBS exercise program "Sit and Be Fit" for seniors!!

It is a couple days later and the tremendous swelling has gone down, but is now replaced with lovely purple bruises. Just in time to head back to school tomorrow morning!!

First Day of School

Audrey is in 11th grade - I'm not sure how old that makes me though... She was excited to start school this year. She has Algebra, History and English in the morning and then heads over to the skill center for welding. Should be a fun year.
