We took Audrey's friend Shayla with us downtown to see the movie "Coraline". It was weird... but the girls liked it. It was different, kind of a mix between Corpse Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas and Beatlejuice.
After the movie we had lunch at Ferguson's Cafe (in the Garland District). For those who are not Johnny Depp fans, this is where they filmed one of the scenes from "Benny & Joon". After lunch we headed back toward the valley and came to the corner of Ruby & Mission. If you are from this area, that is where the antique store with the HUGE yard statues is. They are closing this location so we decided to stop and browse. Both of the girls found a treasure that they could afford. I still could not afford the $1,000 statue, but it was fun to look!
Later that evening I went to the Spokane Symphony performance with my mom. It was a great concert! The first half they played songs written by Mancini - The Pink Panther, Charade, Baby Elephant Walk, Moon River, Peter Gunn, etc. The second half they played numbers from movies such as Rocky, Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz, Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Godfather. They finished the night with "Sing, Sing, Sing", one of my favorite numbers.
They had a guest conductor, Carl Topilow, who was not only quite talented as a conductor, but also as a clarinet player. He is best known for his RED clarinet. He was also rather funny! Overall a very fun day!!
