Hunt for Bread

When we've gone to a local sandwich shop (Halletts Market) and had their Reuben panini, they've always used a marble rye bread that we have liked. Last time we were there we asked where they got their bread. So the next time I had a week-day off, Audrey and I went on the hunt for the bread at Alpine Bistro and Bakery located at 810 N. Monroe. From the title it sounded like it would also serve lunch, so we planned to do that too. It ended up being more of a coffee and breakfast place that also sold fresh bread, so we bought our loaf of bread and had lunch at Stella's, a place just around the corner at 917 W. Broadway. They have a great menu of soups and sandwiches and are only open during the weekdays. We shared a chicken salad sandwich (with bacon, tarragon, arugula) and soup meal that also came with chips. It was delicious and hit the spot. We went home and made a Reuben panini for dinner using our special rye bread. (Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, pastrami and thousand island dressing).
